Akhmatova er rekna som ein av dei viktigaste personane i russisk litteratur på 1900-talet. Ana Andrejevna Ahmatova (rus. Ánna Andréevna Ahmátova, izvorno prezime Gorenko) je bila znamenita ruska pesnikinja, kritičar i prevodilac.

Anna Akhmatova – Carl Köhler 1919-2006

Though she first came to prominence as a romantic poet during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II, it was as Russia’s ‘Cassandra’ during the violent days of Revolution and even bloodier years of Anna Akhmatova was immensely dignified, with unhurried gestures, a noble head, beautiful, somewhat severe features, and an expression of immense sadness. Akhmatova's son Lev was arrested again at the end of 1949 and sentenced to 10 years in a Siberian prison camp. Anna Akhmatova is the literary pseudonym of Anna Andreevna Gorenko. Her first husband was Gumilev, and she too became one of the leading Acmeist poets. Her second book of poems, Beads (1914), brought her fame.
